1059 university ave.

look at what's going in next to rich's on university - an indoor/outdoor restaurant. this will be a nice addition to universal going in across the street. this stretch of university is primed to go from a scattering of restaurants and clubs to a more dense selection.
the poster pictured above didn't have much information - even the schematics were too blurry. but more outdoor dining is always a good thing.

mystic mocha

what a neat coffee shop tucked into the triangular block bordered by mission ave. in university heights. the sun was setting as i neared the end of my long bike ride today, and it was the perfect cozy spot to get my caffeine fix for the rest of the trip. i love the paint colors on the building, and it's like an old house on the inside. there's a good writeup of the place in city beat this week. plus, in the same wedge-shaped block, an interesting mid-century furniture place sits. i'll have to make this block a regular stop on my weekend bike trips.

smart corner

wow the triangular patios at the smart corner condo project downtown are pretty unique. they look huge too - until you notice that the balcony guardrails don't extend to the edge of the triangle. with their southerly views to the bay, i think i could still enjoy it.

marie's cafe

had a fun lunch at marie's cafe saturday. it's located on university in the heart of north park, and it's your typical diner - leather booths, friendly older waitress, and your typical breakfast and sandwich fare. but there's something to be said for a good diner, and marie's fits the bill. nothing special to report here, just a big tasty turkey/bacon/avocado for me and a big burger for jay. i like the old feel to the place too - checkerboard floors and a long diner bar. a welcome addition to the north park revival.
